Detective Branch (DB) of police have arrested four members of banned Islami militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Airport and Khilgaon areas in Dhaka.
The arrestees are Md Idris Sheikh, Md Mukul Sharif, Md Salam, and Mostafa Zaman. They were arrested in drives from 4pm to 10pm Sunday.
In a press briefing, Detective Branch Joint Commissioner Monirul Islam said the JMB men visited Pakistan several times.
Of them, Idris Sheikh visited Pakistan 48 times.
The DB official said the four had been doing anti-government activities in a bid to create anarchy.
"They also targeted important persons and made plans to kill them," Monirul added.
Idris has contacts with a foreign detective agency official and a female officer of a high commission.
He went to Pakistan via India in 1985 and married a Pakistani woman in 1990. He also participated in 2002 Pakistan national election under the banner of Pakistan Muslim Alliance. Idris returned to Bangladesh in 2007 and joined the militant outfit JMB.
Another arrestee Mukul Sharif is involved in human trafficking while Md Salam is a Bihari and cultivation-related trader in profession. Mostafa Zaman had worked as traffic inspector at Pakistan International Airlines.
The detectives also seized 26 jihadi books, three passports, five mobile phone handsets, 4,000 Pakistani rupees, 1,500 Indian rupees, 1,300 Bahrain dollars and 1,600 Jordan dollars.
