Foreign funds will not save Bangladesh from the negative effects of climate change if protection of the overall environment is not ensured, said Sultana Kamal, executive director of Ain o Salish Kendra, yesterday.
She said it was important to raise voice to limit carbon emission to a certain level by 2050.
Sultana was addressing a march, held as part of a global event to ensure a safe and clean Bangladesh, at Central Shaheed Minar.
Carrying placards, festoons and banners, thousands of people joined the march, which began from Central Shaheed Minar at 11am. The marchers walked to Shahbagh via Doyel Chattar and the High Court intersection.
The march was addressed by Abdullah Abu Sayeed and Rasheda K Choudhury among others.
Abdullah Abu Sayeed, president of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon and also the founder of Bishwo Shahitto Kendro, said: “The damage of our environment goes on unabated and people have to raise their voice against it.”
