BSF firing kills cattle trader in Lalmonirhat

A Bangladeshi cattle trader has been gunned down by the members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on Doikhaua border in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat district.

The deceased is Amulla Chandra Barman, 38, son of Mohesh Chandra Barman, of Doikhua area. He was a cattle trader.

Local sources said a BSF patrol team from India's Baromoricha camp fired some shots at a group of seven cattle traders including Amulla while they were trying to cut barbed on the border around 2:45am Friday.

Amulla died on the spot. Later, his associates dragged his body into Bangladesh territory.

When asked, Lalmonirhat Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) 15 Battalion Commander Lie Col Ahmad Bazlur Rahman Hayati said the incident took place when some Bangladeshi cattle traders tried to intrude into Indian territory.

Strongly protesting the killing, BGB later sent a letter to the BSF camp and called for a flag meeting in this regard.
