A local Chhatra League leader has been hacked to death allegedly by his rivals over a piece of disputed land at Naharpur village in Nabiganj upazila on Thursday.
The dead, Ekbal Hossain, was organising secretary of recently-dissolved Nabiganj Municipality unit BCL. He was also an accused in CNG-run autorickshaw driver Belal murder case.
Police said Ekbal Hossain and one Bazlu Miah, from the village, had long been loggerheads over a land-relater matter.
As sequel to the incident, Bazlu's musclemen swooped on Ekbal with lethal weapons in the village in the noon, leaving him dead instantly.
Being informed, police recovered the body and took it to local police station from crime scene.
When asked, Nabiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten admitted the murder to the Dhaka Tribune and said Ekbal recently came out jail on bail in the murder case.
They were carrying out raids on different areas to arrest the miscreants who committed the murder, the OC went on.
