The Supreme Court is set to hear today the review petition from war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury against his death penalty.
The Appellate Division bench, headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, set the date yesterday after the BNP leader’s lawyer Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said he was tired and unprepared.
“His [Salauddin’s] lawyer requested the court to keep the matter for hearing tomorrow [Wednesday]. Hopefully, it will be heard then,” said Attorney General Mahbubey Alam following yesterday’s court’s session.
In the afternoon, the criminal review petition was placed in the third position of the cause list, according to the website of the Supreme Court.
The court was slated to hear the review petition of Salauddin yesterday following the review hearing of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.
On October 14, war criminal Salauddin filed the review petition with the Supreme Court seeking acquittal from the charges levelled against him. Earlier in July, the court upheld his death penalty, while a death warrant was issued on October 1.
The International Crimes Tribunal 1 sentenced him to death on October 1, 2013.
