Four alleged robbers have been killed by mob beating at Chowdhury Dangi village in Sadar upazila of the district.
The identities of the deceased, aged between 25 and 40, could not be confirmed immediately after the incident.
Sources said a gang of at least 10 robbers equipped with lethal weapons and firearms swooped on the house of one Matin Sheikh in the village around 2:30am on Saturday.
At one stage, an announcement regarding the robbery was made with the local mosque's loudspeakers and the villagers gave the robbers a hot chase and managed to catch four of them.
Later the mob beat up the four mercilessly, leaving them dead instantly.
Being informed, law enforcers from Kotwali police station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies along with a foreign-made pistol.
They bodies were sent to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Kotwali police station Officer-in-Charge Nazimuddin Ahmed confirming the lynching.
When contacted, Charmadhabdia Union Chairman Tuhin Mandal said there was an outbreak of robbery in his locality recently and the locals were fed up with it.
