Nur Hossain sent to jail

A Narayanganj court has sent seven-murder case prime accused Nur Hossain to jail. 

Chief Judicial Magistrate Shohidul Islam passed the order when police produced him before the court on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, the microbus carrying Nur Hossain reached on the court premises around 2:32pm.

Plaintiff's lawyer Shakhawat Hossain Khan said: "We expected that Nur will be shown arrested under section 54 and taken on remand. But they did not do it. We are assuming that this might have done to hide the truth."

Mentioning that the lower court rejected their no-confidence petition on the charge sheet, the lawyer said they would move to the High Court demanding fresh charge sheet in the case.

"There would be an opportunity to submit supplementary charge sheet if Nur was shown arrested under section 54 of the penal code," he added.

Public Prosecutor SM Wazed Ali Khokon said: "There is no necessity of further investigation in the case. The charge sheet contain almost all the names who had been made accused in the case.

"Now we want speedy trial."

Nazrul's widow Selina Islam said: "Many information will not be revealed if Nur Hossain is not remanded."

She also expressed apprehension that Nur Hossain would come out of jail getting bail in the case.

Nur was handed over to BGB 26 Battalion Deputy Commander Maj Liakat Ali around 11:32pm Thursday

He was brought back to Bangladesh a day after Ulfa leader Anup Chetia was handed over to the Indian government.

On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj City Corporation panel mayor Nazrul Islam and six others were abducted. Later, their bodies were recovered from Shitalaykha river on April 30. Nazrul’s wife filed an abduction case against Nur and several others on April 28.

The government later arrested the suspected RAB officials, but Nur fled to India, allegedly with the help of local MP Shamim Osman.

On June 15, 2014, the West Bengal police arrested Nur with some of his accomplices from Kolkata. He had been in Indian custody since then.
