PM congratulates Suu Kyi over telephone

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a telephone call has congratulated Opposition Leader of Myanmar and chairman of National League for Democracy (NDL) Aung San Suu Kyi for her party's landslide victory in the general election.

Sheikh Hasina made the telephone call from her Gonobhaban residence at 4:25pm on Wednesday, PM's press secretary Ihsanul Karim said, reports BSS.

The prime minister congratulated Suu Kyi on her own behalf, her government, her party, people of Bangladesh, her family and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana, said the press secretary.

"It's the recognition of your long sacrifice and sufferings," Sheikh Hasina told Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi said she is still struggling for democracy in her country.

In reply Sheikh Hasina said she is also struggling for making democracy sustainable in Bangladesh.

Sheikh Hasina told the Myanmar leader that her government would have all support on Suu Kyi.

Suu Kyi extended her thanks to the prime minister for her support.
