“We have a plan to halt access to Viber and WhatsApp for some days to trace the cyber crime bigwigs. The action may appear any time on need,” said Hasina.

Later, she requested journalists to expand their cooperation in the move.

On Januray 18, the government had blocked Viber and Tango on security grounds.

Viber is an instant messaging and Voice over IP (VoIP) app for smartphones developed by Viber Media. In addition to instant messaging, Viber users can exchange images, video and audio media messages.

Internet is also required for sending text messages, images, video and audio media messages over WhatsApp.
