On the other hand, Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin said: “We have handed over Anup Chetia to a delegation of Indian High Commission from Kashimpur jail this morning.”
Earlier, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal denied of being informed about the Chetia's repatriation.
Press Trust of India (PTI) published a report stating that the ULFA leader was handed over to India on Wednesday morning.
Police arrested Anup Chetia at a house in the capital’s Mohammadpur in 1997. He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment in three cases filed for possessing arms and fake passport and intrusion illegally.
Even though his jail term ended on February 25 in 2007, he is still languishing in jail.
