Speakers at a demonstration programme have strongly criticised the authorities of Rajshahi City Corporation for caging a large portion of the bank of River Padma with iron fence.
The authorities of the city corporation recently installed iron-fence along a portion of the river back, restricting the entry of the city dwellers without tickets.
Earlier, the portion, which was considered the lone entertainment centre of the city, was opened to all.
Eligible Youth For Evaluation, a non-partisan volunteer organisation, staged a human chain demonstration in the city on Thursday morning, protesting the authorities' decision.
They strongly criticised the authorities for taking such step and warned of tougher programmes, like hartal, if the decision is not withdrawn immediately.
