'IS claim on Ashulia police killing false, fabricated'

Militant group Islamic State's claim for the attack on a police check post in Ashulia industrial area is completely false and fabricated, Additional Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka range Shafikul Islam has said.

The police official, who is also the chief of the three-member probe committee in the Ashulia police killing incident, made the statement while visiting the attack spot on Thursday afternoon.

"Islamic State's claim for launching the attack is completely false and fabricated," he said.

He also said police were collecting footage of CCTV cameras stalled at the garment factories near the highway.

Muntasirul Islam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Media), said: "We have received such claims before but could not find the authenticity. We are scrutinizing the information regarding the IS claim in the Ashulia killing incident." 

Police constable Mukul Hossain who was deployed at a check post was killed and his colleague was injured in an attack as they stopped a motorcycle for checking on Wednesday morning.

The Islamic State (IS) has claimed the responsibility for the attack, SITE Intelligence group disclosed the information in a report on Wednesday.
