Police bar Moncho coffin rally at Press Club

Police have barred the coffin rally brought out by Gonojagoron Moncho at National Press Club.

Later, a five-member delegation of the pro-liberation platform submitted a memorandum to the Home Ministry demanding immediate arrest of the killers of secular publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan.

Moncho brought out the rally from Shahbagh around 12 noon Thursday. As soon as the rally reached at Press Club, police obstructed the rally.

Shahbagh police station OC Abu Bakar Siddique said: "Police barred the rally in apprehension of traffic jam and subversive activities."

Moncho is also scheduled to stage a protest rally in the capital around 3pm Friday.

The organisation has observed half-day hartal on Tuesday, demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Dipan.

Jagriti Prakashani Publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan, whose publishing house published a book of slain writer-blogger Avijit Roy, was hacked to death in the capital's Aziz Supermarket on Saturday.

He was killed a few hours after three bloggers and writers, including Shuddhashar Prokashani Publisher Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, were hacked in the capital's Lalmatia area on Saturday afternoon.
