Five policemen have been injured as their vehicle fell in roadside ditch in the face of firing by some drug traders on the Comilla-Sylhet highway in Ghatura area in the district town.
The incident took place around 11:15pm Tuesday to Sadar police station Sub-Inspector Abdul Awal Bhuiyan and four constables named Abul Bashar, Mithun Chandranath, Shahidul Islam and Ariful Islam.
However, police detained three youths along with 48 pieces of yaba tablets from Ghatura village in the dead of the night on suspicion of having connection with the attack.
When asked, Brahmanbaria Sadar model police station Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tapos Ranjon Ghosh said they suspected that the arrested were carrying a yaba haul by a car from which they made the firing in the face of police intervention.
A case was registered there in this connection and the trio would be sent to local court through showing arrest them in the lawsuit, the ASP continued.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital's physician Shariful Islam said the injured policemen got admitted to the hospital and their condition was not critical.
