Several major opposition leaders under surveillance

Investigators yesterday said they had kept a number of leaders of the major opposition under close surveillance for their alleged involvement in Cesare Tavella murder.

Meanwhile, the home minister yesterday said the mastermind and big brothers would soon be uncovered.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday at his ministry told reporters that there was no doubt about the efficiency of the police force.

The police have already succeeded in tracing the attackers who attempted to murder the priest and almost solved the mysteries of Farooqi and Khijir murders.

He said the cases filed in connection with the murders of foreigners had been solved and the planners, financier and the mastermind were identified. They would be made public very soon.

A Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch high-up yesterday said they had found evidence that at least one Jamaat-e-Islami leader was involved in the planning stage but for the sake of investigation he declined to reveal his name.

Meanwhile, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of DB, said they were still searching for evidence of the money transaction and said they were unsure if the money was transacted from abroad.

Italian citizen Cesare Tavella, 55, was shot dead ovn September 28.
