Mohammad Nasim, the spokesperson of ruling Awami League-led 14-party alliance, has said Transparency International Bangladesh must apologise for its recent report named “Parliament Watch.”
After attending a meeting of the 14-party alliance, Nasim, also the health minister, said: “The Bangladesh chapter of Transparency International must apologise for its report on the proceedings of the second to sixth sessions of the 10th parliament.
“Otherwise, the anti-graft watchdog will have to face consequences. We [14-party] have already called upon the foreign ministry to take legal action against the organisation if it does not apologise.”

“We have also urged the foreign ministry authorities to reveal the motive of the TIB behind preparing the report. Its source of income will also be unearthed,” added the Awami League leader.
While talking to journalists outside the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in the capital's Dhanmondi on Thursday, Nasim further said: “The TIB is trying to bring in an undemocratic government again by releasing such report.”
Earlier on October 25, a latest report prepared by the TIB said: “The desired effectiveness of the national parliament is under question due to unprecedented appendage of the so-called opposition party.

“Instead of acting against the government’s decisions, the main opposition, led by HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party, has been playing the role of a pat on the back.”
The TIB also says that the strong role of the speaker in parliament to stop non-parliamentary behaviour and language was absent. “After forming the government through a controversial election on January 5 last year, lack of effectiveness of the opposition in the national parliament is vivid.”
