Another Bangladeshi beaten to death by BSF men

Indian police yesterday recovered the body of a Bangladeshi cow-herd from the Ichhamoti River in 24 Parganas of West Bengal, several hours after he was beaten to death by  India’s  Border Security Force (BSF) personnel.

Deceased Monirul Islam, 32, hails from Balunda village under Benapole police station. India’s Gaihata police recovered his body around 11am and sent it to Bongaon Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Locals said that Monirul and several other cattle traders had gone to the border area to bring in cows smuggled by the Indians traders. The BSF men along the border chased them and caught Monirul. Later they beat him to death and dumped the body in the river.

Family members of the victim and Putkhali union parishad Chairman Abdul Gaffar confirmed the incident. “Monirul went to India early Tuesday to bring in cattle bought by local businessmen. He has been missing since then,” Gaffar said.

Border Guard Bangladesh’s Putkhali camp officials were yet to confirm the identity of the deceased.
