The government is planning to increase the existing fine against illegal parking as well as reckless driving to reduce road accidents, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday.
“The existing fine of Tk200-300 for illegal parking and over-speed of vehicles is not enough compared to other countries. We are thinking of increasing the fines,” he said.
The home minister was talking to reporters at Shilpakala Academy after inaugurating a rally in observance of the “National Safe Road Day” in the city. The rally ended at the Central Shaheed Minar after parading different streets.
Nirapad Sarak Chai, a road safety advocacy forum, organised the programme. Film star Ilias Kanchan is the chairman of the organisation.
Asaduzzaman said they want to increase the fine so that people think twice before going for parking their vehicles illegally and over-speed.
He also said the Home Ministry has already identified various reasons behind road accidents and taken steps accordingly to reduce road fatalities.
