JMB man placed on 3-day remand in Chittagong

A court in Chittagong has granted three-day remand of banned militant Islamic outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) active worker Minhajul Islam Sajid in connection with arms recovery case lodged with Karnaphuli police station.

Police produced the JMB man before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abdul Kader at around 3:30pm on Sunday with seven-day remand prayer in the case of arms recovery while the court granted three-day remand prayer after hearing on the case, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP)’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (prosecution) Kazi Muttaki Ibn Minan.

Earlier Minhaj gave his confessional statement before the same court on Saturday evening in the case in connection with Sadarghat mugging case after being arrested from Nagpara of Tangail.

Sajid was arrested from Nagarpur area of Tangail district on early Saturday for his alleged involvement in the mugging case.

Police arrested five JMB men including Towfiqul Islam alias Javed, 22, head of explosive wing of JMB in Chittagong district from Khoyajnagar area of Karnaphuli in the city along with nine handmade grenades, arms ammunitions and huge bomb making materials on October 5.

Later a case was filed with Karnaphuli police station in this connection.

Javed was killed in a grenade explosion during a drive in Oxygen under DB police custody when the police took him at the area for arms recovery on following day.

On September, 23, a team of JMB men blasted several grenades during mugging a local businessman at Majirghat area of Sadarghat while two JMB men and the businessman Satya Gopal were killed in the bomb blast. Police found the involvement of JMB men while investigating the mugging case.
