Home Ministry staff scot-free despite arrest warrant

A month after a court issued an arrest warrant against a Home Ministry computer operator for allegedly torturing his wife, the police have not made any arrests.

The accused, Mizanur Rahman, currently a security official of the home secretary, is now allegedly threatening his wife, Motahar Akther Khuki, to force her to withdraw the complaint filed against him.

Motahar told the Dhaka Tribune last night that after failing to receive a Tk5 lakh dowry, Mizanur began beating her and their daughter severely, before throwing them out the house on August 14.

A case was later filed with the Woman and Child Repression Tribunal. The court issued the arrest warrant on September 20.

“Just a day ago, one of Mizanur's friends called me and threatened us on his behalf,” Motahar said.

When contacted, Lalbagh OC Moniruzzaman said that he would need time to review the details of the case before commenting on it.

Mizanur denied the alleagtion against him, claiming that his wife’s family was making a bid to grab his property.
