Cabinet signs MoU with Plan Int’l Bangladesh

The Cabinet Division has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Plan International Bangladesh to develop an effective civil registration system in the country.

The signing ceremony took place yesterday at the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Secretariat. Cabinet Secretary (Coordination) Nazrul Islam and Plan International Bangladesh Country Director Senait Gebregziabher signed the MoU.

Officials of both Cabinet Division and Plan International Bangladesh, as well as child rights experts attended it.

Civil registration is a system for the government to record the vital events – such as birth, death, marriage, etc – about the citizens and residents of a country. The primary purpose of such a system is to create legal documents in order to establish and protect civil rights.

Bangladesh is one of 150 countries in the world where there is no proper civil registration system.
