At least 12 protesters were injured yesterday in the capital’s Karwan Bazar as police charged truncheons on them while they were heading towards health directorate to submit a memorandum seeking cancellation of medical admission tests for question paper leak out and retake of the tests.
Progotisheel Chhatro Jote and Samrajjoabad Birodhi Chhatro Oikkya locked the main gate of Arts Faculty, Curzon Hall, Department of Sociology from 10am to 1pm as the organisations declared countrywide students’ strike. The students of different university boycotted the classes.
Along with University of Dhaka (DU), Dhaka Medical College (DMC) and numerous educational institutions marched with the programme.
The students of DU, Jagannath University, University of Chittagong, Jahangirnagar University, University of Rajshahi, Begum Rokeya University boycotted the classes showed their solidarity and joined them in the protest at Shahbagh, said the protesters.
Breaking police barricade in front of central public library, the protesters blocked Shahbagh intersection to press home their demands amid a student strike underway at educational intuitions.
They continued blocking Shahbagh intersection around 2pm and then tried to march towards the health directorate at Mohakhali. Police obstructed a portion of the protesters and others managed to proceed to Karwan Bazar.
About retaking of medical exams, Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammed Nasim said: “Any undue demand of the medical seekers will not be accepted. The protesters are creating chaos taking position in the street.”
“The enrollment process of medical exams is continuing. There is no opportunity for any change,” he added.
He came up with the speech at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) while handing over an ambulance to the secretariat clinic.
