The much-awaited Kazir Bazar bridge will open for traffic movement today.
Additional Chief Executive Engineer of Roads and Highway Department Iftekhar Kabir told the Dhaka Tribune that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would inaugurate the bridge for vehicular movement around 10am trough a video conference from Gonobhaban in the capital. The bridge has been constructed at a cost of Tk189 crore. The prime minister will also inaugurate construction works of Bholaganj Highway.
On December 24, 2005, M Saifur Rahman, the then finance minister, laid the foundation stone of the bridge. The initial cost of the project was estimated Tk44.64 crore, but in the last 10 years, it has risen more than four times to Tk189 crore. Kamal Associates, a Dhaka-based firm, has implemented the project.
The construction works of bridge was remained suspended during the previous caretaker government.
Apart from this, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate three power plants with a total generation capacity of 476 megawatts.
The power plants are Ashuganj 225MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, United Ashuganj 200MW Modular Power Plant and Ashiganj Midland 51MW Power Plant, said a power ministry press release.
Ashuganj 225MW Combined Cycle Power Plant is fully owned by the government and it has been constructed at a cost of Tk2,116 crore. United Ashuganj 200MW Modular Power Plant is the country’s first public-private joint venture plant which has been constructed at a cost of Tk1,326 crore.
Ashiganj Midland 51MW Power Plant is an IPP plant of VIYELLATEX Limited and Shahjibazar Power Plant and the construction cost of this plant was Tk300 crore.
