Cricketer Shahadat remand hearing Oct 8

A Dhaka court has fixed October 8 for hearing a plea seeking remand for of cricketer Kazi Shahadat Hossain alias Rajib in a case filed for torturing domestic help.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Nuru Mia passed the order Tuesday after the IO of the case Shafiqur Rahman sought a seven-day remand for the cricketer.

Shahadat, who was on run since the injured 10-year-old domestic help was rescued, surrendered before a Dhaka court Monday, a day after his wife was arrested.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Yusuf Hossain sent Shahadat to jail the same day, rejecting his bail plea.

The court also set October 12 for submission of probe report.

On Sunday, another court sent Shahadat’s wife Jesmin Jahan Nitto to jail after rejecting her bail petition in the case.

Police arrested Nitto at the Pabna Lane in the capital’s Malibagh area.

Khandaker Mojammel Hossain, a journalist, filed the case against the couple with Mirpur Model police station on September 7 after rescuing 10-year-old Happy, the domestic help.

Happy was rescued from the capital's Pallabi area a day before.
