An eight-year-old boy has been injured with bullets allegedly from the pistol of local MP Manjurul Islam Liton at Gopalcharan village in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha.
Injured Sourav, son of Sazu Mia of the village, was a class IV student of Gopalcharan Primary School in Sundarganj.
Locals said MP Manjurul Islam was going home on his car around 6am Friday. On the way, he asked a man to get on his car but the man got frightened and started running. The MP then opened fire at the man that hit his son Sourav.
Sundarganj police OC Jinnat Ali admitted that the boy received bullet injuries.
He also said the MP's supporters blocked the way of an ambulance that was carrying the injured boy to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Being informed, the OC rushed to the spot and cleared the way.
OC Jinnat Ali said he heard that the boy was shot from MP Manjurul Islam's pistol but the witnesses were not giving statement out of fear.
Manjurul Islam's mobile phone was found switched off when this correspondent tried to call him for comment.
On July 21, police submitted charge sheet against Awami League lawmaker Pinu Khan’s son Bakhtiar Alam Rony for the death of two persons near Dilu Road on April 13.
Rony, who was in a drunken stupor, opened fire from his car indiscriminately near Dilu Road leaving two people — rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and daily Janakantha’s auto-rickshaw driver Yakub — injured.
Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on April 15 while Yakub died on April 23.
