Nurul Islam elected new AmCham president

Md Nurul Islam, regional senior vice-president, and head of Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar of MetLife, has been elected as the president of American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) for the year 2015-2016. 

Showkat Ali Sarkar, managing director of DuPont Bangladesh Limited, and Shafiqul Azim, general manager, R-Pac (Bangladesh) Limited, have been chosen to be the vice-president and treasurer of the organisation.

The other executive committee members include Syed Ershad Ahmed, country manager and managing director, Expeditors (Bangladesh) Ltd, Khd Rashed Maqsood, managing director, Citi Country Officer – Bangladesh, Citibank, NA, Sadrullah A Mansur, vice-president & COO, NMCI (Bangladesh) Ltd and Al-Mamun M Rashel, country manager, NATCO Packaging Bangladesh Ltd.

Md Nurul Islam joined MetLife’s American Life Insurance Company in Bangladesh in December 1981.

Prior to his joining, he briefly worked at Fisons (Bangladesh) Ltd, a subsidiary of a British pharmaceutical company.

Apart from his BA (Hons) and MBA degrees from the Department of Economics and the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) respectively under the University of Dhaka, the business icon completed the ‘MetLife Enterprise Leadership Program’ from Harvard Business School, Boston, MA, USA, in 2014.

Currently, he is a member of the Committee of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation.
