The High Court yesterday asked the government to submit the inquiry report on Kalihati of Tangail, where four people were killed in police firing, in 60 days.
In response to a writ petition, the bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Jafar Ahmed also issued a rule upon the government to explain how police had followed the relevant legal provisions in firing, within four weeks.
The writ petition was filed by Salma Ali, the executive director of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA).
In the petition, she sought directives on the authorities to submit the report and to pay compensation to the family members of the victims.
The IGP office, the DIG of Dhaka range and the deputy commissioner of Tangail are carrying out the inquiry.
Following the order, they will have to submit the report to the High Court in 60 days from the day they received the order from the court.
