Man killed in Habiganj clash

A man has been killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over land dispute in Manduri village under Baniachong upazila in Habiganj.

Deceased Jaynul Miah, 45, is the son of Mafil Miah of the village.

At least 30 people have been injured in the clash.

Quoting locals, Baniachang police station OC Nirmalendu Chakrabarti said there had been a long standing dispute between former Chairman of Manduri Union Parishad Shamsu Miah and current member of the union parishad Alfi Miah over the ownership of a piece of land in haor area of Manduri village.

The supporters of Shamsu Miah and Alfi Miah equipped with locally-made lethal weapons locked in clash on Saturday afternoon over the possession of the land, leaving Jaynul Miah died on the spot.

Being informed, Baniachong police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Local people rushed the injured to Baniachong Upazila Health Complex and Habiganj Sadar Hospital.

A case was filed with Baniachaganj police station in this connection.
