92 Bangladeshi hajis still missing

A total of 92 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims are still missing after the stampede in Mina that claimed the lives of over 700 pilgrims on Thursday.

Consul General of Jeddah Consulate AKM Shahidul Karim confirmed the death of two Bangladeshi hajis in the tragic stampede in Mina.

He said: "Saudi government has disclosed the photos of 600 victims of Mina stampede. Of them, two Bangladeshis have so far been identified."

Of the two dead hajis, one was identified as Shahidul Islam of Khulna.

However, family members of five Hajj pilgrims of Bangladesh claimed that the five were killed in the stampede.

First secretary of Hajj affairs at the Bangladesh embassy in Saudi Arabia, Jahirul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that they made a list of 92 Bangladeshi Hajj pilgrims who are still missing.

He said they prepared the list after their medical team leader and a joint secretary of Bangladesh's Religious Affairs Ministry visited several hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

At least 717 pilgrims were killed on Thursday in a crush at Mina, outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca, where some two million people are performing the annual Haj pilgrimage, Saudi authorities said.

At least 805 others were injured in the stampede, which took place on Street 204 of the camp city at Mina, a few kilometers east of Mecca, where pilgrims stay for several days during the climax of the Hajj.
