At least 100 fishemen, who went missing after their trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal during a storm Saturday night, have been rescued from an island in the district Monday.
Mongla Coast Guard's Contingent Commander (West Zone) Captain Mehedi Masud said members of Coast Guard and Navy in a joint drive rescued the fishermen from different points of the sea.
Sydul Islam, forest officer in Sundarbans, said few trawlers were caught in a storm, and sank with more than 100 fishermen on the day while they were netting fish.
The officer said members of lawenforcers would continue their drive.
