Ghatail, Kalihati OCs closed over Tangail firing

Officers-in-charge of two police stations of Tangail have been closed to range office following firing on rape protest in Tangail that left four people dead.

The two police officers are Ghatail police station OC Mukhlesur Rahman and Kalihati police station OC Shahidul Islam.

The police officials were closed on Sunday night, said Sharifur Rahman, ASP of Tangail (South).

Three protesters – Shamim, Faruk and Nitai Chandra – died on Friday in police firing when the several thousand villagers of Ghatail and Kalihati upazilas blocked the road demanding fair probe and quick trial into the rape of a woman in front of her son on September 15.

Bullet-hit Md Rubel succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, raising the death toll to four.

Three probe bodies formed over the police firing started working on Saturday. The same day three sub-inspectors and four constables of Kalihati police were withdrawn.

Moreover, two cases were filed with Kalihati and Ghatail police stations in connection with the protest incident against over 700 unidentified people.
