Seven police members accused of firing on a protest against rape in Tangail's Kalihati upazila which killed three people, have been withdrawn.
They were closed and attached to the Tangail Police Line Saturday, a day after the incident occurred.
Three people were killed and 50 others injured, four with bullets, as police allegedly opened fire and charged baton on some people demonstrating against torture on a youth and his mother in the upazila on Friday afternoon.
“Three sub-inspectors and four constables have been closed and sent to the police line in the afternoon,” acting police super of Tangail Sanjoy Sarker said.
Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman told journalists that a 3-member probe committee headed by Additional DIG Md Alamgir Alam has been formed to investigate the incident.
The committee was asked to submit its report within a week.
Earlier in the day, Dhaka divisional commissioner Zillar Rahman, Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman and acting police super of Tangail Sanjoy Sarkar visited the spot.
Besides, another three-member probe committee headed by an additional district magistrate was formed to look into the matter, sources at Tangail Deputy Commissioner’s office said.
