Minister Mohsin Ali passes away

Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali, who is suffering from pneumonia, has died while undergoing treatment at a Singapore hospital.

Minister's Public Relations Officer Maidul Islam told the Dhaka Tribune that the minister breathed his last around 8:50am Monday.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed shock at the death of the minister.

The minister was flown to Singapore for better treatment on September 5.

On September 3, the minister was taken to BIRDEM hospital after he fell sick. Later on September 4, he was shifted to the intensive care unit (ICU) at a city hospital as his condition deteriorated.

A veteran freedom fighter, Syed Mohsin Ali left behind his wife, three daughters, relatives, party men and well-wishers to mourn his death. He was an elected lawmaker from Habiganj-3 constituency.

The 66-year-old minister had been suffering from diabetes and underwent a bypass surgery earlier.
