Water laden vessel sinks in Chittagong

A water carrying vassal owned by Chittagong Port Authority has capsized in Karnaphuli River on Sunday morning.

However, the movement of the vessel at the port's channels remained normal, said port officials.

Port officials said the vessel “MV Mosak” was used to carry purified water for merchant ships which are anchored in the port in exchange of money while it sank at jetty number 13 of the Chittagong port.

Chittagong Port’s Deputy Conservator Captain Nazmul Alam said around 40 meters long vessel had 500 tones loading capacity and it was capsized when water is being loaded on the vessel through pipeline at the jetty in the morning.

Sensing the accident, the crew of the vessel got down from the ship while no casualty was reported in this connection, said port official.

Captain Nazmul said the accident spot was traced by putting buoy while the vessel movement was remained normal at the port.

Port sources said the authorities formed a five-member committee, headed by Port member (Harbor and Marine) Commodore Shahin Rahman, to investigate into the incident.
