The government has increased the fare of CNG-run buses and autorickshaws operating in Dhaka and Chittagong cities.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader disclosed the new fare of the CNG-run vehicles in a press conference at the secretariat on Thursday morning.
According to the latest fare, the passengers of CNG-run buses will be charged Tk1.70 for each kilometre of travel instead of the existing Tk1.60 rate while the fares for minibuses will be Tk1.60 per kilometre, from the current Tk1.50 rate.
The minimum fare for bus and minibus will remain the same. The present minimum fare of bus is Tk7 while it is Tk5 for minibuses.
The minister said the new fare for bus and minibus will be affected in Dhaka and its nearby districts and in Chittagong city from October 1.
Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Manikganj and Narsingdi will fall under the new fare.
Obaidul said: “The passengers will have to pay Tk40 for the first two kilometres of travel in autorickshaw and Tk12 each for the following kilometres.”
Currently, the passengers pay Tk25 for the first two kilometres and Tk7.65 each for the following kilometres.

Tk2 per minute will be charged for waiting which was previously Tk1.40.
He said: “The autorickshaw drivers will have to deposit Tk 900 instead of Tk600 to the owners.
“The new fare for autorickshaws will be effective from November 1 so that the drivers get to fix their meters.”
However, the fare of long route buses will not be increased.
On Wednesday, the Public Transport Fare Coordination Panel placed its recommendations to the Road Transport and Highways Division, proposing that passengers of CNG-run buses will be charged Tk2 for each kilometre of travel instead of the existing Tk1.60 rate.
BRTA sources had said the panel also proposed that fares for minibuses will be made Tk1.85 per kilometre, a 35 paisa hike from the current Tk1.50 rate.
