Man kills wife, daughter over dowry

A man has allegedly killed his wife and daughter altogether being failed to realise dowry from his father-in-law at Tarali village in Kaliganj upazila early Tuesday.

However, police managed to arrest the alleged killer named Abdur Rauf Sarder, a resident of Noltar Ghona village of the upazila.

The victims are Sabina Yasmin, 26, and the couple's daughter Ayesa Khatun, 2.

When asked, Kaliganj circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mir Manir Hossain said Abdur Rauf along with his wife Sabina and daughter was on a visit in his father-in-law's house since Monday evening.

The couple locked in brawling there over buying a motorcycle by dowry money and being infuriated by the incident, Abdur Rauf strangulated his wife and two-year-old Ayesa at dead of the night, the ASP continued.

“During preliminary questioning, Abdur Rauf has confessed his involvement to the double murder. There was an urgent need of money for his mother's treatment and he committed the murder being anguished when his father-in-law denied to give his demanded money,” the ASP went on.

Sabina's mother Jahanara Khatun said she came out of her home after hearing an unusual sound in her daughter's room around 12:30am and found Abdur Rauf was fleeing desperately by his bicycle.

Later, she found the bodies laying on bed and informed local police who made the arrest from Noltar Ghona village in the night.

The bodies were sent to Satkhira Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
