New pay scale approved in cabinet

The proposed eighth pay scale for public servants has been approved in the cabinet.

The approval came in a weekly cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The new pay scale will be effective from July 1, 2015. However, allowance will come to effect from July 1, 2016.

According to the 8th pay scale, the highest salary structure for grade 1 is Tk78,000 which was earlier Tk44,000 while the lowest scale for grade 20 is Tk 8,200 which was earlier Tk41,00.

There is no time scale and selection grade in the new pay scale. However, there is a yearly increment from grade 2 to 20.

The senior secretaries of the government will get Tk82,000 as a basic salary under special grade category while the cabinet secretary, principal secretary and the chiefs of three defence forces will draw TK86,000 under the same category.

There is no yearly increment for the public servants who are under the special category. 

For the first time, the government employees will get 20% of their basic salary as festival bonus on the occasion of Pahela Boishakh.

The government servants will get 90% of their basic salary as pension which was earlier 80%.
