SQ Chy's son Hummam sent to jail

A Dhaka court has sent convicted war criminal Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury's son Hummam Quader Chowdhury to jail in an arson case filed with Gulshan police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Meher Nigar Suchona passed the order after police produced him before it on Saturday afternoon.

Hummam's counsel Khalequzzaman Firoz filed a bail petition. The court will hear the petition on Sunday.

The younger son of the convicted war criminal was arrested from their Dhanmondi residence around 10:30am.

Dhanmondi police station OC Nure Azam told the Dhaka Tribune that an arrest warrant was issued against Hummam in the case.

On October 1, 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal awarded death penalty to BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury for his involvement in crimes against humanity committed in 1971.

Salauddin, who had served then prime minister Khaleda Zia as her parliamentary affairs adviser during 2001-06, appealed against the tribunal verdict on October 29, 2013. 

On July 29, the Supreme Court upheld the tribunal’s death sentence to Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.

He was arrested on December 16, 2010, and shown arrested in war crimes case on December 19 the same year. The tribunal indicted him on April 4, 2012.
