Abul Mansur Ahmad’s political philosophy emerged through literature. He had ironic perspectives which were amusingly pointed out as inconsistencies.
Researchers, littérateurs, academics and journalists made this assessment in the daylong “Abul Mansur Ahmad Memorial Conference” held yesterday at the Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy,
The conference was organised by Abul Mansur Ahmad Smiriti Parishad to mark the 117th birth anniversary of the prominent writer.
Three sessions were held, based on Ahmad’s life as a littérateur, journalist and politician.
Professor emeritus Anisuzzaman, writer and novelist Syed Shamsul Haque, Selina Hossian, Dr Biswajit Ghosh, Professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Syed Abul Maksud, and Abul Momen spoke in the different sessions.
Anisuzzaman said: “Abul Mansur Ahmad’s basic thoughts on politics and culture were unique.”
“He said that Bengali Muslims have a different culture. We must go forward with our own culture. He had done such work with integrity,” said the professor.
Syed Shamsul Haque said: “Satirical writings, such a strong medium of literature, are disappearing due to today’s over-sentimental society. We talk about Abul Mansur Ahmad but it is our responsibility to further continue his work.”
Later, a special honorary memorial was given to Dr Rafiqul Islam for editing a six-volume work of Abul Mansur Ahmad.
Additionally, Dr Nurul Amin, Dr Rajib Humayun, Dr Chengis Khan, Dr Mizanur Rahman and Imran Mahfuz were awarded for their research work on the prominent littérateur.
Prof Anisuzzaman bestowed a crest and Tk50,000 to each of the award winners.
