A traditional boat race was held yesterday in the Titas River under Sadar upazila with participation of nine boats.
Thousands of spectators gathered on the Sarail-Oruail Road to enjoy the the event in the Budda boat terminal area.
The boat from Horipur village under Nasirnagar upazila won the race.
Local MP Advocate Ziaul Hoque Mridha distributed prizes among the winners.
He said the race was relaunched in 2008 to revive folk culture in the area.
Former chairman of Sarail upazila Awami League Abdul Halim, who is also a freedom fighter, chaired the prize giving ceremony.
Sarail Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Emran Hossain was present as the special guest.
Many people, including children and students, gathered on the both banks of the river and the rooftops of nearby buildings to watch the boat race.
Boat race is one of the traditional sports of entertainment of riverine Bangladesh. A fair is held on the bank of the river and the vendors sell various types of goods.
