Transport owners and workers began an indefinite strike yesterday morning protesting vandalize of buses and in demand of stop plying of easy bikes on Meherpur-Kathuli and Mehepur-Mohajonpur roads in the district.
Golam Rasul, general secretary of Bus, Minibus Owners’ Association said they held a meeting with the local administration along with the local MP Prof Farhad Hossain on Monday in the DC’s office and decided that the easy bikes would ply from Meherpur to Noorpur on Meherpur-Mohajonpur road and Meherpur to Kayemkatar Crossing on Meherpur-Kathuli road.
Meanwhile, Sajjadul Anam, president of District Easy-bike Owners’ and Drivers’ Association said that bus workers vandalized some of their easy-bikes as they put barricade on two roads in demand of plying easy-bikes.
The Bus Owners’ Association called the strike and threatened to stop plying buses in the district with other parts of the country if their demand is not met by the day.
Superintendent of Police Hamidul Alam said the problem would be solved soon through discussion with the two groups.
