Kokhon Kibhabe Ekhane Ke Jane

Excitement for Indalo, a rock band from Dhaka, is at fever pitch right now. With a headline debut album Kokhon Kibhabe Ekhane Ke Jane set to make its way to the audiences on Saturday, September 5, they’re in for the most amazing week of their career.

The band features Jon, former-frontman for Black, and Zubair, former-vocalist/guitarist for Aashor; conjoined by Bart, bassist for Ajob, and Dio from Nemesis, on drums.

Mind you, they are not good; they are freakishly, mind-bogglingly amazing!

Firstly, they sound incredible. Opening with Sake, they start as though they mean to go on. Their entire flourish is down to Zubair’s lyrical wizardry. As well as helping push the band’s sound forward, he’s also breathed a different form of life into Olik and Tomar Shokal, which are both about introspection and reflection, and manage to be both twee and soulful without plodding too much. The folk-tinged Deyalghori and Obosheshe, are highlights that combine softer cuts complemented by Jon’s unmatched vocals. On the other hand, Dio’s drum-o-mania and Bart’s bass-e-nation on Plastic, Antonogor and Canvas to ensure that Indalo succeed in continuing to burn the candle at both ends.

Secondly, it’s an unapologetic aural battering of different sounds that these sound merchants are more than happy to oblige. With the likes of Pounopunik, Pathorer Arale Phool, ISD, Oshfut and Ke Shunbe, mixing the attack of indie-rock with groovy tunes, it’s safe to say that your ears will most certainly celebrate.

Visually, they’re jaw-dropping. The 60 page album booklet consists of eye-catching photography, typography, calligraphy, album facts and liner notes, which have all been done by Tilok Adnan. The work of art is striking and it makes for an intense, gripping spectacle.

The whole band is incredible, but it can’t be denied what a captivating figure Jon Kabir is. His admission in all the songs are poignant, and the massive grin that regularly appears on his face could say more than any words could about how much this band means to him.

They may be a couple of days away from launching their first debut album, following that will be a solo concert by the band, arranged by Livesquare (dates to be announced soon), and with the raising anticipation of the audiences, it is further proof that Indalo is not only one of the most exciting bands we’ve got, but one of the most important as well.
