The government will procure six more aircraft from Boeing Company in a bid to increasing capacity of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon has said.
Menon told this in the Jatiya Sangsad while replying to a question from treasury bench member Begum Lutfa Taher on Wednesday, reports BSS.
"Two new 373-800 aircraft from Boeing Company would be added in the state-run national flag carrier in November-December this year to improve services and make it a profitable organisation," he said.
The minister said the government would also procure four more 787-8 extended range aircraft from the company in 2019-2020 as part of modernisation of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines fleet.
Besides, the government has procured two 777-200 ER aircraft on five years lease in March and May, 2014 to build capacity of the national flag carrier, he said.
"The Biman Bangladesh Airlines has also brought two Dash 8-Q 400 aircraft for domestic and regional routes on April 2, 2015 on five years lease," Menon added.
