3 killed in Cox's Bazar road accident

Three people have been killed and eight others injured after a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Eidgaon Islambadh area in Cox's Bazar.

The deceased are Palongkhali union Ward 7 Member Kamal Uddin, 30, Rezia Begum, 35, wife of Amiruzzaman of Moheshkhali upazila and her son Sagar Uddin, 2.

The bus of Shamoli Poribohon plunged into a roadside ditch on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway when the driver lost his control over its steering around 4am Sunday. Rezia and her son died on the spot.

Chakaria Malumghat highway police In-Charge Anwar Hossain said: “On information, police went to the spot and sent the injured to different local hospitals.”

“We have seized the bus but the driver and helper managed to flee the scene,” he said.

Tulabagan highway police OC Mujubur Rahman said: “Kamal died when he was being taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”

He said Kamal was the general secretary of Juba Dal's Palongkhali union unit.
