Flood situation improves in Jamalpur

Overall flood situation has improved in the district with the dropping of water level in the river Jamuna.

Water level in the river Jamuna dropped 10 cm and was flowing 8 cm below the danger level at Bahadurabad ghat point yesterday afternoon, Water Development Board sources said.

District Primary Education Officer, Abdul Alim said teaching in 119 primary schools which were shut down due to flood water will open from today as water receded from those schools, reports BSS.

Deputy Commissioner Md Shahabuddin Khan said flood water dropped significantly but the sufferings of people in the affected areas not removed.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Office sources said over 33, 000 people in Islampur, Dewanganj, Bakshiganj, Madarganj and Sarishabari upazilas have been affected by the flood.

Department of Agriculture Extension Office sources said standing crops on 9, 302 hectares of land in six upazilas out of seven upazilas of the district have been submerged.

The source said during the last two days no crop-land submerged a fresh. The sources also said damages of crops caused by the flood yet to ascertain.
