The officer-in-charge of Gaibandha Sadar police station was closed and attached to Dhaka range on Thursday after he was charged with manhandling three employees of a Gaibandha court in July.
OC Raziur Rahman was named in a lawsuit filed by Komol Chowdhury, an employee of Gaibandha Senior Judicial Magistrate Court who, along with two of his colleagues, was manhandled at Sonali Bank’s Gaibandha branch on July 2.
Eight police officials and the branch manager of the bank were also accused in the case apart from the OC.
The additional superintendent of police in Gaibandha, Faruq Hossain, said yesterday OC Raziur was attached to Dhaka range as part of disciplinary measures.
“The eight other policemen were closed and attached to the district police lines on the day of the incident,” he said.
According to the documents of the case filed on July 5, Komol, Gaibandha Senior Judicial Magistrate Court record keeper Mozammel Haque and cashier Jewel Kabir went to the bank to withdraw money but protested when they saw Assistant Sub-Inspector Aiyub Hossain changing the order of cheques inside the counter himself.
Aiyub hurled verbal abuse at Komol because of the protest, triggering a brawl.
Komol then went to the branch manager’s room to make a complaint but district detectives arrived there and beat him up. Mozammel and Jewel were also beaten up as they tried to save Komol.
OC Raziur soon arrived on the scene and jostled Komol to force him out of the bank that left the court employee’s shirt ripped.
After Komol filed the case, arrest warrants were issued against the 10 accused.
But they all were bailed after filing bail petitions on July 7.
