State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said ensuring supply of primary energy and investment is the main challenge to generate electricity in line with the Master Plan 2030.
“The main challenge to achieve development goals in energy sector is to ensure supply of primary energy at an affordable price and making investment as much as necessary,” he said while speaking at a round-table discussion as chief guest at the capital’s CIRDAP auditorium yesterday.
Nasrul Hamid said the government investment could not reach the target alone, and so it also required private investment. Besides, the government is designing an investment road-map up to 2021, he added.
A fortnightly magazine Energy and Power organised the discussion on “Energy Challenge-2030.”
“We are ready to face the challenges taking multifarious efforts from exploration of local resources to import of electricity and gas or LNG to meet energy requirements,” Nasrul said.
“Making appropriate policies and concerted efforts will enable the energy and power sector to achieve the targets of the Power Sector Master Plan 2030.”
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor M Tamim said the gas production in Bangladesh would fall in next 3-4 years.
“Gas will be available in the wells, but low pressure will lead to drop in production,” he explained.
The discussion was moderated by Energy and Power Editor Mollah Amzad Hossain.
Energy and Power Contributing Editor Engineer Khandakar Abdus Saleque, Power Cell DG Mohammad Hossain, energy expert Dr Mushfiqur Rahman, DU Prof Badrul Imam, BUET Prof Ijaz Hossain, Power Development Board Chief Engineer Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and DCCI Senior Vice-President Humayun Rashid, among others, also participated in the discussion.
