Govt to file review for Sayedee’s death

The government will move a review petition with the Supreme Court seeking death sentence for convicted war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee for his crimes against humanity during the nation's struggle for birth in 1971.

The International Crimes Tribunal-1 had sentence Sayedee to death in February, 2013.

On September 17 last year, the Apex court, in an appeal verdict, commuted his punishment to imprisonment until death.

While talking with the reporters at the office on Sunday, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said the state will file a review petition with the SC seeking his death penalty after the Appellate Division releases its full verdict.

However, he did not comment on when the SC might release the full verdict.

The law officer also hoped that the full verdict on war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujaheed that upheld his death penalty for crimes against humanity on June 16 this year, will also be released soon.

Upon getting the full text of the judgment, the government will start process for executing the death convict. He, however, can seek a review of the sentences once the full judgment is released.
