Bangladesh Coast Guard members have seized two deer, 200kg of venison and a trawler carrying them from Bodurtola area under Patharghata upazila in Barguna.
No one was detained in the drive conducted early Sunday.
Coast Guard Patharghata Station Commander Lieutenant S A Rouf said: “Acting on a tip-off, we conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am. The deer and venison were being smuggled through the Bishkhali river.”
He said the smugglers left the trawler behind and fled the scene.
Patharghata Forest Department official Md Humayun Kabir said: “As per the rule, the venison will be buried under the earth and the deer will be released in Sundarbans after treatment.”
