The officers-in-charge of Khilgaon and Hazaribagh police stations in the capital were transferred on Wednesday after they drew flak over the proper execution of their duties.
Khilgaon police station OC Mustafiz Bhuiyan was transferred to the Detective Branch while Hazaribagh OC Kazi Mainul Islam succeeded Mustafiz.
Inspector Alimuzzaman was made the OC of Hazaribagh, said DMP Deputy Commissioner Muntasirul Islam.
OC Mustafiz was slammed for not registering the general diary of blogger Niladri Chatterjee, who was hacked to death in his Khilgaon house on August 7.
Niladri earlier wrote on Facebook that he went to Khailgaon police station in mid-May after he received threats but police did not register the general diary and rather asked him to leave Bangladesh.
DMP then formed a committee to investigate the allegation. Muntasirul said transferring OC Mustafiz was part of administrative procedures.
Meanwhile, OC Mainul was also blasted after teenager Raja was beaten to death in Hazaribagh by Chhatra League leader Arju on charge of stealing mobile phone and laptop.
Raja’s family, reacting to OC Mainul’s transfer, said there were apprehensions that they might be attacked.
They observed that OC Mainul was transferred because he took the case filed over the death of Raja and the transfer could earn Arju’s family advantages.
Raja’s sister Reashma Akhter, who filed the case, said Arju’s family members were spreading a rumour that they would Raja’s family to leave the area.
But OC Alimuzzaman denied the allegation and said police would provide Raja’s family with security if they were in fear and filed a complaint.
